The Spring 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt is Here!

Welcome the Spring 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt! I’m Victoria Strauss, and I write fantasy and historical fiction for adults and teens. My most recent book is Color Song, a YA historical novel with a dash of magical realism set in Renaissance Venice.

The bi-annual YA Scavenger Hunt was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes!

At this Hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author (content that’s often not available anywhere else), you also get a clue for the Hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from me and all the other authors in my team. But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online until Sunday, October 5.

There are 59 contests–wait, did I say FIFTY-NINE? I meant EIGHT! That’s right, eight contests going on simultaneously, each with 20 authors–and you can enter one or all. I’m part of the BLUE TEAM–but there’s also a red team, a teal team, an orange team, a green team, a purple team, a pink team, and a gold team for a chance to win  whole different sets of signed books.

(If you’re looking for my exclusive bonus content–the deleted first chapter of Color Song–keep hunting! The links will bring you there.)

To find out more about the hunt, see links to the more than 150 authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page. If you’re a newbie to the Hunt and would like to know more about how to play, see the handy How To Hunt page.

Directions: Somewhere on this page, I’ve listed my favorite number (hint: the number is highlighted in blue). Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the Blue Team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!). You’ll find a link to the next Blue Team author at the bottom of this post.

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: The Hunt is open internationally. Anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by April 5, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

That takes care of the technical stuff. And now, the author I’m hosting for the Hunt:

Joshua David Bellin has been writing novels since age eight (though the first few were admittedly very, very short). His debut, the science fiction adventure Survival Colony 9, was published in September 2014. The sequel, Skaldi City, is in the works!

Josh is showcasing Survival Colony 9 for the Hunt. It’s gotten some terrific reviews, including this, from Booklist: “Tantalizing mysteries abound among the human and inhuman inhabitants of the bleak landscape, and the postapocalyptic plot is satisfyingly full of twists.”

I love the cover–I think it looks like a movie poster. Here’s a synopsis:

In a future world of dust and ruin, fourteen-year-old Querry Genn struggles to recover the lost memory that might save the human race. Querry is a member of Survival Colony Nine, one of the small, roving groups of people who outlived the wars and environmental catastrophes that destroyed the old world. The commander of Survival Colony Nine is his father, Laman Genn, who runs the camp with an iron will. He has to–because heat, dust, and starvation aren’t the only threats in this ruined world.

There are also the Skaldi.

Monsters with the ability to infect and mimic human hosts, the Skaldi appeared on the planet shortly after the wars of destruction. No one knows where they came from or what they are. But if they’re not stopped, it might mean the end of humanity.

Six months ago, Querry had an encounter with the Skaldi–and now he can’t remember anything that happened before then. If he can recall his past, he might be able to find the key to defeat the Skaldi.

If he can’t, he’s their next victim.

The Spring 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt is over! Thanks so much for playing.

Before you go…I’m offering a bonus contest!

One winner will receive a Kindle Paperwhite in a beautiful custom cover, with Passion Blue and Color Song pre-loaded. Three winners will receive signed hardcovers of Color Song and Passion Blue. I’ll also tuck in some swag. US and Canada residents only, please.
