The Fall 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt is Here!

Welcome the Fall 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt! I’m Victoria Strauss, and I write fantasy and historical fiction for adults and teens. My most recent books are Passion Blue and Color Song, a YA historical duology with a dash of magical realism set in Renaissance Italy.

The bi-annual YA Scavenger Hunt was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes!

At this Hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author (content that’s often not available anywhere else), you also get a clue for the Hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from me and all the other authors in my team. But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online until Sunday, October 4.

There are 22 contests–wait, did I say TWENTY-TWO? I meant EIGHT! That’s right, eight contests going on simultaneously, each with 20 authors–and you can enter one or all. I’m part of the TEAL TEAM–but there’s also a red team, a blue team, an orange team, a green team, a purple team, a pink team, and a gold team for a chance to win whole different sets of signed books.

(If you’re looking for my exclusive bonus content–an excerpt from my soon-to-be-re-released YA fantasy Worldstone–keep hunting! The links will bring you there.)

To find out more about the hunt, see links to the more than 150 authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page. If you’re a newbie to the Hunt and would like to know more about how to play, see the handy How To Hunt page.

Directions: Somewhere on this page, I’ve listed my favorite number (hint: the number is highlighted in teal). Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the Teal Team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!). You’ll find a link to the next Teal Team author at the bottom of this post.

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: The Hunt is open internationally. Anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by October 4, 2015, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

That takes care of the technical stuff. And now, the author I’m hosting for the Hunt:

A native of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Mary grew up as the youngest of six children in a family of misfits. She has worked as everything from a history museum director to a toilet seat hand model.

In her other life, she’s an award-winning poet, professional eavesdropper, and the person who wipes runny noses.

Here’s a synopsis of her novel Dream Boy, co-authored with Madelyn Rosenberg:

Annabelle Manning feels like she’s doing time at her high school in Chilton, Virginia. She has her friends at her lunchtime table of nobodies: Serena, Talon, and geeky, reliable Will. What she doesn’t have are possibilities. Or a date for Homecoming. Things get more interesting at night, when she spends time with the boy of her dreams. But the blue-eyed boy with the fairytale smile is just that—a dream. Until the Friday afternoon he walks into her chemistry class.

Will doesn’t trust him. Talon suspects he’s an alien. Serena is pretty sure it’s all one big case of deja vu. While Annabelle doesn’t know what to think, she’s willing to believe that the charming Martin Zirkle may just be her dream come true. But as Annabelle discovers the truth behind dreams—where they come from and what they mean—she is forced to face a dark reality she had not expected. More than just Martin has arrived in Chilton. As Annabelle learns, when dreams come true, so do nightmares.

I love dream-stories! And what a gorgeous cover–so mysterious and evocative. There’s an awesome book trailer, too:

The Fall 2015 YA Scavenger Hunt has finished! Thanks so much for playing.

Before you go…I’m offering a bonus contest!

Two lucky winners will receive signed paperback copies of Passion Blue and Color Song. I’ll also tuck in some swag! (US and Canada residents only, please.)
